De-clutter Your Mind and Your Wardrobe will Follow!

Updated: Jul 7, 2020

I can’t believe we are half way through January already, I don’t know about you, but I am quite happy to be back to some sort of normality. Last year was full of ups and downs for me, health, friends, career, however the one thing I have learned is that sometimes you just have to give yourself a break and focus on what you can change and not what you can’t.

Giving yourself some head space to reflect on what you have achieved, what hasn’t gone so well and what you are going to change for the future is a good place to start the new year. My Christmas in Dubai did just that for me, getting on the plane in London, it was cold, dark and pouring with rain, fast forward eight hours and I was stepping off the plane into sunshine and a ‘warm hug’, it was a much needed break and a good opportunity to take stock of the year I’d left behind.

Once you have decided where you are going this year then it’s time to get yourself into some shape and commit to following it, start putting into practice all of the knowledge you have, all of the things you learned last year, have a plan and stick to it.

Your wardrobe is just one tiny part of your success, but conversely a huge part of how people perceive you on your journey, if you have a busy life the last thing that you need to add to it is worrying what you are going to wear for the week ahead.

So, here are my top tips on clearing out your wardrobe, clearing out your mind, even clearing out some of the people who haven’t supported you and progressing with what you want 2019 to be about.

What are your goals?

Ask yourself these questions and be specific, are they career goals, family goals or even attaining a different lifestyle? Are you surrounding yourself with people that support you on this journey and exposing yourself to experiences that will enhance your mindset or are you hindering your progress with the same old repetitive patterns? It’s important to be honest with yourself and take a long hard look at what works, what doesn’t and how you’re going to change it.

What does your week look like?

Do you spend your time commuting, getting up when it’s dark, having a full-on day and getting home when it’s dark, what and maybe who do you come home to? Are you running your own business that means you’re dropping the kids off and then beginning a day of meetings with a variety of different businesses and then rushing home to make sure everything is organised for the evening or are you tied to corporate hours of 9.00 to 17.00?

Take the time to review

What works for you? What doesn’t work? Do the people in your week / your life make you happy and support you and if it doesn’t / they don’t, how are you going to change it? Does your wardrobe make the start of your day easy? do you wake up at 5.30am and everything is ready to go, or is it chaotic, you grab the nearest thing to you and get out of the door? How does this make you feel? Organised and in control, or out of control and another area of your life that causes stress? Pay attention to this because it’s the start of your day, it sets the tone for how you feel, how confident you are and how you appear to other people you are meeting throughout the day.

Be clear and honest with yourself

Start the year as you mean to go on, prepare, take things out of the equation that can be dealt with easily, organise your wardrobe into outfits for the five days ahead, get up in the morning and it ‘s one less thing to think about = more headspace, more time and less stress.

Take the time to reflect on the positive things you have achieved and that have made you feel good, learn from the mistakes and most importantly move on, remind yourself of the things you are good at and have the best 2019 ever.
