6 Easy Ways to update your look
Updated: Jun 1, 2020
I always get excited at the start of a new season, it’s another great opportunity to update your look and your wardrobe. However, if you’re not someone who loves shopping it can be a nightmare, but it is important to keep you looking relevant and up to date. Refreshing your wardrobe doesn’t need to be a huge overhaul and expense, there are some very simple things that you can do that will make you look great and feel uplifted.
Add a new season colour
One of the easiest ways to update your wardrobe is to buy some basic items in one of the new seasons colours or prints. The best way to add colour is to buy items that you can mix and match with your existing wardrobe staple items. So a fine knit jumper or ‘t-shirt that you can wear under other items such as a jacket or dress can be perfect.
Add accessories
Accessories can completely change the look of an outfit, making it look more sophisticated or cool and edgy and indeed taking an outfit from daytime into evening. There is some great costume jewellery on the high street, stores such as Zara, Mango, H&M and Top Shop have lots to choose from, or if you are looking to spend a little more Stella and Dot have some great styles and Accessorize covers all of the basics.
Shoes with personality
Shoes are a fabulous way to add a simple style twist to an outfit. Even if your style is not super fashionable a shoe with some interesting detail can instantly make your outfit stand out. There’s lots to choose from in a variety of heel heights from Metallic, Animal print, boots with contrasting heels or unusual bright colours. For men, shoes that are a different shape / colour / texture make a suit more fashionable and can make a casual outfit look fabulous.
Get your nails done in a new colour
Such a simple way to ensure you look pulled together is to ensure your nails always look well groomed. If you always go for neutrals it may be time to change it up a little, think about what colours you like and what suits your skin tone, Pinterest is a great source of inspiration that can give you more ideas and tying it in with some of the new seasons colours is a simple and cheap way to update your look.
Update your hair
Some small changes to your hair can make such a difference to your overall look, maybe in the summer you have favoured a brighter blonde and for winter you’re thinking of investing in a darker shade or some low-lights. Investing in a style consultation prior to your visit to the hairdressers can help you understand which colours are likely to work best for you and what style shapes will suit your frame, what colours work best with your skin tone and compliment your wardrobe.
Add some variety to your makeup and skincare
The change in the weather usually signifies some changes to your skin and colouring, as well as the way that your skin reacts. It’s a great time to think about your skincare and makeup and add in a few key changes to make sure your skin is protected as the weather gets colder / warmer. It’s also a great time to update your makeup look, this may mean slightly stronger colours in winter than summer or a more intense moisturiser or serum to ensure your skin stays hydrated and your makeup enhances what you already have rather than cover it.
